View Full Version : Avalon Width
Just a quick how to change the width of the style. Instead of 100% I would like it to be 80%

Edit it in ca_config.html

I assumed that the JScript Script Editor inside the template folder is the thing to use to edit the html file, but when I tried to open it I got this runtime error:
'navigator' is undefined
Code 800A1391
First off, am I fishing in the right ocean here? If not, how do I go about editing html?

Don't edit with that editor. Use some simple text editor instead, like notepad.

Cool, did that. Should I be concerned though that the new ca_config.html file that I created in Notepad is a mere 88 bytes in size compared to the original file size of 578 bytes?
I haven't yet replaced the file on the server, pending this question. My worry is that somehow I lost a bunch of information even though the script was merely copied and pasted (then edited to 80%) from your original file to my new one in Notepad. Seems odd to me that the file size would be so much smaller. ???

Probably you removed something else, or your old editor screwed up something. Get original file and edit it again.

Okay, will do. And when I edit, the only change I make to the script is to replace the number 100 with 80, correct?

Okay, I copied and pasted the script into Notepad from the original 578byte file, changed only the 100 to 80, and saved the new doc using Notepad as ca_config.html. File size again came in at 88bytes.
I went ahead and replaced the original file on the server this time and checked my site to see if the forum width was now 80% of what it was (full screen width). No change.

hmmmm.... okay, maybe I'm on to something here. I just found an HTML editor in cpanel 11. I restored the original 578byte ca_config.html file to the server, then opened it using their editor. From there I could easily change the script from 100 to 80. I saved it, then went and refreshed my browser but no changes were reflected on my published website. I then went back into the file on the server and used their editor to also change the number 800 to 640 since that is 80% of the 800 pixel width. Saved it, refreshed, and again no changes to my forum.

Clear cache in control panel.

Sorry it took me so long to get to this...
I just cleared the cache in cpanel inside the public_html folder, changed the 100 to 80, refreshed my site, and still no changes were evident.
I don't think I'm doing this correctly. :o

I'm not sure what cache you are talking about, the one you are supposed to clear is inside "cache" directory of phpBB. Delete all php files in it.

Oops, I was in the wrong control panel!
I cleared the cache in forum's ACP and voila!
Thanks again. btw, if you want to see my forum in its infancy (I colorized your avalon style & centered my dumb logo)...
[I just removed the link to my site since I am beginning to get the picture that it's not proper etiquette to link to one's own site on support forums.}
